New Hire Spotlight: Jessica Baran
New Hire Spotlight: Jessica Baran
Bristol is excited to announce Jessica Baran as the newest addition to the executive search firm! Jessica joined the team in August of 2021 and has been leading searches throughout the Hospitality industry.
After being raised in New Jersey and graduating from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management Administration, she attended the Swiss School of Hospitality with a focus on culinary arts. Throughout her career, Jessica has utilized her unique skills and expertise to specialize in luxury brands and deliver the highest quality of strategic sales.
“We are thrilled to have her join our Bristol family! Beyond her years of industry wisdom is a heart of gold. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and positive energy she brings to our clients and candidates every day; they are in great hands,” says President Ben Farber.
Now that Jessica is settled into her Vice President role, we asked her a series of questions to break the ice.
What led you to your career as a recruiter?
“When I was a sales leader, I had a passion for always wanting to develop people to reach their full potential. Sometimes, this meant fitting people into another department. Working as a recruiter allows me to do the same thing, except I can place people in different companies, with different cultures which works best for them. I’m so grateful this job allows me to use my skills of developing people to help them become the best version of themselves.”
What are you passionate about?
“I’m passionate about helping people and realizing their untapped talent.”
Describe yourself in three words or phrases.
“Tenacious. Empathetic. Always Hungry.”
What motivates you at work?
“I like it when I get the chance to help with a life-changing event like placing somebody in a new position or new city where they can redefine themselves or begin another chapter. Whether they are taking a huge step in their career or giving them the courage needed to move forward in their life, I like being able to develop someone’s career for the better. Sometimes, the life-changing event can mean placing candidates in a position so they can move back to their hometown or closer to family. I love being able to bring them closer to their goal. That’s what motivates me about this job! Bringing people happiness by contributing to something that will change their lives.”
How do you recharge after a busy day?
“Spending time with my rescue dogs, playing mahjong with my friends at the Club, “attempting” to play tennis, and being with my friends and family.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
“I like to travel, cook for my friends, and eat in different parts of the world.”
Who inspires you?
“My brother inspires me. He is incredibly smart and funny. He reminds me of a wonderful combination of my mother and father, yet he is his own character. He is humble and has a great sense of humor. Chris is also a natural born leader. Other than Chris, I have usually found the good in people and find inspiration in someone every day.”
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“Besides Ben Farber obviously a given, I wanted to be a dancing lawyer. But then I realized there would be a lack of eating— no thank you amigo, and with being a lawyer, there would be a lot of reading and sitting in one place. I didn’t want to do any of that. I knew I loved to travel at a young age. Ergo, I chose hospitality, so I could cook, eat, and travel, which are all the antithesis of being a dancing lawyer.”
Where’s your favorite place in the world?
“There are two actually: Ravella, Italy and San Sebastián, Spain.”
What kind of music do you like?
“I love all different types of music, from classic rock to nineties. Though, I’m not really interested in any music after the nineties. If anything, I really enjoy and appreciate Italian Renaissance art.”
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you want to have with you?
“I’d want the James Bond movie set, a bottle of Grey Goose, and probably an endless supply of Door Dash, so I can always have food.”
What’s the one piece of advice you would give others about life?
“I would say change is inevitable, so embrace it.”
